Using Consistent Home Icons To Keep A Launch On Track

Two days before our public beta launch, I was walking through the latest build with design, engineering, and marketing in the same room. Our navigation felt solid, but three different home symbols showed up across the web app, mobile views, and a help center mock. The team could feel that tiny inconsistency, and I knew it would distract people in our stakeholder review.

In moments like that, my usual move is to let designers hunt across random icon packs, tweak each house icon in the design tool, and hope they still look aligned after export. That approach is slow, and it makes it hard for engineers and marketers to reuse the same home icon SVG in the product, onboarding emails, and slide decks. This time, I shared one link with everyone: the home icon collection. It surfaces a large set of home and house symbols in both SVG and PNG, all under a clear “Home & house icons – SVG, PNG” section.

Shifting From One-Off Fixes To A Shared Source

From a product management perspective, the win here is standardization. Designers can browse thousands of home icons, quickly filter, recolor, and pick one variant that fits our Business or Ecommerce flows, then hand off the same asset as SVG for the app and PNG for docs or presentations.

Developers get predictable files instead of ad-hoc exports. Marketing can reuse the identical house icon PNG in blog headers, feature callouts, and social posts without asking for a new version every time. For our launch, we locked in a single home icon for website navigation, mobile tabs, and support content, then bookmarked this collection as the default source.

Next time we iterate our IA or spin up a new product area, we are not debating house shapes again; we are pulling from the same home icon library we already shipped with.
